Nail It!

Nail It!

NAIL IT WITH NAIL CARE.

It's incredible how many people ask me why their nails are too soft, too brittle, too ridged, too many white spots, flaky, slow growing... There isn't one definitive answer and certainly, there could easily be a combination of factors. But it did give me the motivation to create a product that would help. It's called Nourishing Nail Oil and it does what it says on the tin!

What Can Harm Nails?

1. Gel or Acrylic Damage - It doesn't matter how much people kid themselves, these types of treatments wreck the nails. The harsh acetone and filing will make the nails weak. Scientific research is looking at the connection between the UV light used to cure the nail polish and cancer. Personally, I wouldn't want to risk it.

2. Lack of Air - Nail polish per sa will stop the nailbed from breathing so even a classic manicure will have an effect. The recommendation for how long one should wear nail polish is a week on, a week off. With a full season of toenail colour, one can begin to see staining occur beyond the fresh healthy nail growth. Back-to-back nail polish of any kind will have an adverse effect on the nails.

3. Your Health - If something is not quite right in your body, then, it could easily show up in your nails, (and hair, given that they are both made up of keratin.) Medication can have a detrimental effect too. Weak nails and hair loss are signs to recognize and act upon.

4. Diet - If you remove whole food groups, then you'll need to consider supplements because chances are you are not getting a balanced diet. Nails benefit from foods rich in essential vitamins, minerals and trace elements like calcium, zinc, iron and most importantly B vitamins like Biotin which is essential for keratin production. These B vitamins are found in foods like brewer’s yeast, leafy greens, bananas, salmon, liver, eggs, fortified breakfast cereals, nuts and cheeses.

5. File Correctly - File your nails in one direction i.e. not sawing, which reduces their strength if your nails are already weak.

6. Wear Gloves - Wearing gloves when immersed in water, whilst using detergents and doing chores will protect them. Nails don't like being wet for long or being knocked about.

7. Daily Care Routine - Think of your nails as part of your daily routine. Keep them short, clean and moisturised. When I created the Luv My Oil Nourishing Nail Oil the trial results showed that using the product daily had a big impact on how quickly they improved. So by incorporating a nail treatment into your daily routine, you will soon reap the benefits. And that includes cuticle conditioning and the general health of the skin surrounding the nail. Massage into your nails just before bedtime and let the treatment do its magic whilst you sleep!
